some speakers of English would call it a "crash-landing" ... But the Dutch verb "neerstorten" implies for me a fall - and there was none of that here. Indeed "to crash" is a less specific term. In English, a car can crash into a wall, that requires rewording in Dutch.

If I was writing the article, I would indeed use “crash” as well, since it’s a broader term.
However, one of the definitions of “neerstorten” is “plotseling onbedoeld op de aarde neerkomen”, which does kind of fit what happened here, since the aircraft is on its belly, the landing gear seems to be gone, and at the very least the engine suffered a major propstrike.
I can’t really think of a reason why “neerstorten” would not be an apt term in Dutch, particularly when looking at the results of this crash.
All that aside, the runway has now been cleared and ANR is open again.

Some extra information on the accident, statement by BAFA
In the afternoon, BAFA issued a press release, confirming the student airline pilot performing a solo training flight focusing on touch & go's. The student was already familiar with this kind of training. During the flight, however, the pilot noticed a burning smell in the aircraft. Due to the smell in the cockpit, the pilot decided to carry out an emergency landing. After the accident, it became clear that the burning smell came from a fire in a field just adjacent to the location where the pilot performed the touch & go's.
Certain factors have forced the aircraft ending up next to the runway. The pilot involved only got slightly injured.
