Re: Niki suspends its operations
A Berlin court rebuffed a legal challenge to the insolvency filing of NIKI, which could derail its sale to IAG, and referred the case to a higher court for a ruling.

Re: Niki suspends its operations
The sale of NIKI to IAG is not final yet after some legal challenges.
NIKI administrator Lucas Floether said he would press ahead with an agreed sale of the airline to IAG after a German court ruling fanned concern that the deal could unravel. A secondary insolvency filing in Austria, which NIKI will submit by the end of this week, would safeguard the sale.
However, a Berlin court ruled that the NIKI insolvency should have been filed in Austria, not Germany, in a move which could unravel last month’s deal to sell the business to IAG.
Next move?

No matter the outcome, interesting period in European aviation with the whole Air Berlin and Alitalia take-over battles :p
Re: Niki suspends its operations
With all due respect for Niki Lauda, I don't think he has proved to be much of a manager in the past.
Is he acting as a straw man for a big airline or does he intend to resell soon and make a quick buck?
Pure speculation of course...

Now Ryanair also expressed its interest in buying some NIKI assets, as the court battle continues over the Austrian carrier.
Vueling promised to deploy up to eight aircraft from Vienna and use the airport as a base for expansion into eastern Europe after IAG taking over NIKI.

Re: Niki suspends its operations
NIKI founder Niki Lauda sent an open letter promising jobs to all current staff, adding that Laudamotion (Austria) has an AOC and an operating permit and can take over the airline’s slots immediately.
Hmm! Why did he sell his airline in the first place?

And it has been decided: Niki Lauda buys back the airline he founded:
Air Berlin Creditors Agree to Sell Niki to Lauda Co.
(Bloomberg) -- Austrian creditors committee voted unanimously to sell Niki to Laudamotion GmbH, APA reports, citing the airline’s insolvency administrators.
Expect Austrian and German antitrust authorities to approve transaction soon
No financial details given

The IAG bid thus hasn't been accepted. Serious setback for British Airways and Vueling.

Re: Niki suspends its operations
In a way it sounds logical.
Once being asked if he'd start a new airline Niki Lauda answered : I can't do that anymore. Just running short of names as I already sold "Lauda" and "Niki".
