Hi RTM,
If your read careful on what they 'state' on airliners.net: one will be used for expansian while the other / previous 10 remain in operation as well. So there will be expansion (if correctly claimed), but the additional plane (the real extension) will only come in 2019 ... That is how I read this.
Second, I can understand to 'park' some planes. I can't understand though that you would park the better/newer instead of parking earlier than foreseen the very old ones ...

Why would they need two aircraft for that?flightlover wrote: ↑01 Oct 2017, 10:55 Or they increase back-up capacity because they want less leased-in replacements? Not quite the same standard as the rest of the fleet, but still a good solution when a plane is grounded for whatever reason.

Money... Since the new planes are being bought (by LH) they will most likely only starting to cost money to SN from the day they'll go into active service. Before that they won't generate (big) costs (only parking, basic insurance) and thus are cheaper to park while the older ones are most likely not yet end of lease and thus will cost money until the lease expires. It's better to park a "free" plane and use a plane that you are paying for regardless if you use it or not. Due to the higher value of the new(er) planes the insurance of these birds, when in service, will also be higher compared to the older, low value, birds. I'm pretty sure that the accountants went over the numbers multiple times and they'll probably decided that in the short time frame the older planes are cheaper to use. On an extended periode of time the newer ones will be cheaper (lower fuel consumption, extra (freight)capacity, lower maintenance costs).
At least, that's what I think
Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
I generally don't read what is on airliners.net... Too much BS going on. But that is just my taste and opinion. So I can't judge the claim. Might be true, but it differs from what I've heard.DannyVDB wrote: ↑01 Oct 2017, 20:53 Hi RTM,

As for the parking thing, I think Bralo20 is spot on.

TCV Was transferred to SN yesterday.
Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
Will it start flights before or after 28 October ? Thanks
Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
On 8 October the aircraft will fly to East Midlands for its Brussels Airlines livery, the A320 is planned to head back to Brussels on the 18th of October for some additional maintenance. From 28 October the aircraft will be integrated in the Brussels Airlines schedule, as the airline will start flying its Winter schedule and the former Thomas Cook charter schedule.

It will keep its current cabin for the time being. But will be converted at next C-check. Probably winter 2018. Applies to most or all A320 coming in next year.
Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
I hope that the aircraft transferred from TCAB will keep the screens and headset plugs that the other SN A320 aircraft are lacking. It's always nice to be able to follow the progress of a flight on a moving map and/or to watch/listen to entertainment programmes, especially on long flights.luchtzak wrote: ↑06 Oct 2017, 11:21On 8 October the aircraft will fly to East Midlands for its Brussels Airlines livery, the A320 is planned to head back to Brussels on the 18th of October for some additional maintenance. The first A330 is going to leave the fleet in October or November 2018.

Aer Lingus will add eight A321LR aircraft to its fleet in 2019 and 2020 to support further transatlantic route launches in the coming years. An example for Brussels Airlines to follow?
