Ryanair cancellations: European consumer unions have served a notice to Ryanair to properly inform the passengers of their right to a compensation (Ryanair tells them only about rebooking or refund).

The European Commission is also in contact with Ryanair on that topic.

What a joke! It's a simple capacity screw-up. So be a man and suck it up. Same goes for their pax by the way: if you pay peanuts you get monkesy. Fly a descent airline where at least the intention is to serve you and srew-ups are supposed to be the exception instead of general policy.

Would it be possible forTUI Fly or any other airline to launch a counter offer(mainly in CRL)for the xx FR flights?With a 'welcome we help you fare'.Which would be a perfect occasion for this airline to launch new destinations and enter the market for this season but for next summer as well?

FR deserves a good lesson.They will lose any left credibility if they complain in the future in case of any strike happening in Belgian APT(atc,immigration,ground of crew..) or somewhere else in the EU(mainly in France,Spain and Italy).

My two cents...

I flew them a lot when they still had some Italian destinations with morning and evening rotations form the same airport. Since they splitted their ops between CRL and BRU... it has become difficult with them as a business traveller. Just LIS from BRU and PSA from CRL are still useful to me. Otherwise it's SN (also because SN is useless on FLR.

I've always said that FR works of you fly often... you save a lot of money, so when things go wrong (and before today that was rather seldom) you saved enough cash to get you out of trouble and still have saved money left. Now that they're cancelling 2%... things have changed...

On the other hand, don't make any illusions... people will have forgotten this cock-up by say January, especially those who weren't affected...

It would be difficult for TUI to organise such rescue flights at short notice and for a limited period. Their planes are fully used for the end of the Summer season. Their staff is also fully employed. If any rescue could come, it would be at an ad hoc basis and probably from a legacy airline, now that the low cost model has shown its limits.

Instead of 'my two cents' you could have said 'my 2%' .

Seriously, in Belgium it's more than just 2%: 294 cancelled flights out of a total of 2000: that's like 15% of all the cancellations. Not sure that people will easily forget. Even the 98% of the people that haven't been affected: they certainly know someone who has been affected.

There is a worldwide shortage of pilots, many airlines, including legacies, are struggling to keep their aircraft flying. FR did have sufficient pilots at the start of the season, but attrition rate was higher than expected.
Emirates, Qatar, Etihad are offering direct entry captain positions on wide body aircraft. The Chinese carriers are offering up to 25000€ nett a month on a 4 weeks on/ 4 weeks of roster, difficult to resist...
As for rescue flights by TUI: they are maxed out as well, as soon as they face a small problem there are huge delays.

Indeed: we know already that 140 Ryanair pilots quit for Norwegian in the last 12 months, but the total figure is much higher, according to the Irish press! 700 Ryanair pilots have left for a bluer sky elsewhere...

Ryanair circulated an internal memo to its pilots, that La Libre Belgique could read: Ryanair now offers a €12,000 bonus for pilots and a €6,000 bonus to F/Os if they remain with Ryanair until October 2018, at the condition that they are available to work 10 days during their holidays. Not really competitive with Middle East airlines, but still a progress.
