A replacement crew had to be flown to St. John's from JFK and was delayed by poor weather. While waiting for the replacement crew the passengers had been taken to hotels. That should also mean some 24 hr delay for them.

There are a lot of holdings near Heathrow right now, so probably no fuel enough to enter a holding. Example: this A380:sn26567 wrote: ↑05 Mar 2017, 17:11 Aeromexico flight AMX7 (Boeing 787-8 reg. N965AM) from MEX to LHR diverted to Brussels, reason unknown.

There is more in the story. Oman Air blamed the IFE system for being responsible for the smoke in the cabin. Thales, the supplier of that IFE, categorically denied that the system was responsible for the incident.sn26567 wrote: ↑06 Mar 2017, 11:45Reported in The Aviation Herald: https://avherald.com/h?article=4a5c9d76&opt=0
"The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground in Sofia for about 23 hours, then continued the flight as WY-123D and reached Munich with a delay of 23 hours."
Then, the pilot said the plane would take off after the stop in Sofia, but later he declared the aircraft unfit to fly and passengers had to spend the night in hotels, with little help from the airlines and its handling agent.
