After years of State Aid, the European Commission decided Estonian Air has to refund the Estonian State
Without State Aid Estonian Air would hardly survive the year, so let alone refund the aid they received since 2010
Info in Estonian;
http://majandus24.postimees.ee/3390003/ ... asi-maksta
The last flight will arrive today from Copenhagen
For a country in the periphery of the EU, this is quite a blow. Though everyone saw this coming, OV just has a few airplanes and made quite big losses year after year. Postimees noted the decision has been postponed several times, allowing Estonia more time. And making sure the decision did not interfere with elections earlier this year. Nonetheless, even without this decision, the situation was no longer sustainable for the Estonian state.
Looks like a small Sabena, so I feel sorry for the people losing their jobs..
And now the question is, who will jump in?
My bet would be airBaltic (BT) and hopefully SAS
But I fear this will just result in ever lower competition
I heard rumours that Tallinn-Brussels was the only profit making route, thanks to State Officials and the EU IT agency here in Tallinn. Hopefully SN can jump it, but I fear they will not move

We already have a winner!

Re: Estonian Air bankrupt
Tallin could be operated by SN but I guess Air Baltic will take it over, I could see Ryanair as well starting the route. We'll see very soon.
Damm 3 airlines goes bankrupt with 2 days! Now there is a link between the bankrupt of Estonian Air and Inter Sky as Inter Sky was normally flying for them from the 9th of November

Re: Estonian Air bankrupt
A bit of topic but I wonder if BMI already though about opening a base on BRU.ezis_bis wrote:using planes of BMI and Nextjet
They fly for Brussels Airlines from Bristol, Bremen. For Adria they will fly from Tallin, For themself them fly from Newcastle and East Midland and finally from Munich to Liège!
Re: Estonian Air bankrupt
I would expect they will turn into a specialized subcontractor
In a way I feel Adria is also going the same way
The also operate quite some routes which have no links to their native Slovenia
In the mean time, the Estonian Air signs are already being replaced by Adria signs

Re: Estonian Air bankrupt
Adria Airways will be starting ops from TLL as from today.
4 carriers will be used as ACMI during the transition.
As from the 1st of January it will be full JP ops.
For BRU it will be BMI.

As I understood news here, NAGroup will launch a new brand later, so it will not be JPairbuske wrote: As from the 1st of January it will be full JP ops.

I think
http://www.nagroup.ee/en/
But indeed, at the moment flights TLL-BRU will be BMI's ERJ145
Quite a bit smaller than the CRJ900 OV used to have
Fun fact; when you try to book on above site, you get redirected to Adria's site (obviously) where they offer connections to BRU via CPH on SN metal
In OV times it was always connecting on SK metal
Re: Estonian Air bankrupt
That's too bad, as far as I can remember from when I worked at BRU their flight attendants were very good looking
Re: Estonian Air bankrupt
SAS is introducing flights from the three Scandinavian capitals to Tallinn to replace the Estonian flights.

Re: Estonian Air bankrupt
True, I am eagerly awaiting the schedule here
Though it start to sounds like overkill
Copenhagen; 3/day with JP, 3/day with SK
Stockholm; 4/day with JP, 4/day with SK
Oslo; 2/day with JP, 1/day with SK
Only BRU, AMS , IEV and VNO will be without competition at the moment, though BT also said to increase the number of direct Destinations

Small update on Nordic Aviation Group
They have been gathering quite some bad press here, basically been called a virtual airline flying old clunkers
In the mean time they dropped CPH and decreased ARN
More changes are to come according to this article
Own aircrafts will be introduced, and they hope to be profitable by 2018

Re: Estonian Air bankrupt
Estonian Air was declared bankrupt today by a local court after it ceased operations in November 2015 following a EU order to repay millions in state aid. First meeting of creditors scheduled on 15 January 2016.

Re: Estonian Air bankrupt
Nordic Aviation (NAG) will dry-lease a pair of CRJ-700s from US firm Regional One as it pushes to complete certification and launch flights under its own Air Operators Certificate (AOC) during the current half of the year.
The aircraft - ES-ACE (cn 10083) and ES-ACF (cn 10085) - were originally in service with NAG's now bankrupt predecessor, Estonian Air. The two jets are in storage at Tallinn Lennart Meri. The first aircraft is expected to join NAG's fleet this month with the second due next month. They will be used primarily on flights from Tallinn to Amsterdam, but also occasionally to Kiev Borispol and Munich.
As a virtual carrier, NAG is currently using Adria Airways' AOC, commercial platform, and ticketing system to operate flights. Aircraft have been chartered from bmi regional (two ERJ-145s), NextJet (two BAe ATPs), and Carpatair (two Fokker 100s).

Re: Estonian Air bankrupt
Bit troubling, from the eyes of a passenger;
http://news.err.ee/v/economy/cf342728-9 ... say-pilots
I will fly them later this year, instead of the usual LH
Quite some people avoid to fly them, and this is not helping

Re: Estonian Air bankrupt
Yesterday needed to drop off my SO, and Brussels flight of Nordica was cancelled, again.
They have lots of problems with their fleet, even lease them out over the weekends to Austrian
Anyway, some nice info on them;
http://news.err.ee/v/business/8a81e03d- ... aris-route
it is not mentioned here, but for OV Brussels was an important route
Hope it is the same still for Nordica

Nordica off to a bad start;

Nordica will be sold for 49% to LOT Polish
Cooperation with Adria, now operating the flights, will cease in 2-3 months
