Ariana Afghan Airlines is the national airlines carrier of Afghanistan, it was established on January 27, 1955.
When the Taliban government took over the company, it stopped all international flights.
Sanctions imposed by UN Security Council Resolution 1267 forced Ariana to suspend overseas operations. In November 2001, the company was grounded completely.
After the invasion by the US, by December 2001, the ban was lifted and the government of India gave Ariana three ex-Air India Airbus A300s.
