During the staff council this morning, Swissport Belgium CEO Pieter Van den Nieuwenhuizen has informed the unions that he will leave the company at the end of March 2018 after being at the helm since August 2013.
In a letter to its staff the CEO said that “it was not an easy decision as we are currently securing the future of this company. A bright future. Back in September 2017 the management and unions launched a process to develop concrete measures to improve the social climate. An important and historic step together and a particularly important signal for all stakeholders within the airport community.”
Othmar Widmer will temporarily join the Swissport Belgium management team to ensure a smooth transition until a new CEO has been appointed. In the meantime, Pieter Van den Nieuwenhuizen will start negotiations for a new luggage handling contract with Brussels Airlines and will work on the negotiations for renewal of the Brussels Airport handling license.
