On Saturday evening, Hurricane Leslie made landfall on the Iberic Peninsula. Air traffic at the airport of Porto was seriously affected with many aircraft diverting to other airports (image below). Forecasters expect that Portugal will see near hurricane-force winds, while parts of western Spain are expected to be hit with tropical storm-force winds.
It’s very rare that hurricanes reach Europe, as they normally reach the other side of the Atlantic Ocean.
Spectacular satellite imagery of hurricane #Leslie rapidly approaching the Iberian peninsula. A HIGH RISK exists for destructive winds and torrential rainfall with flash floods during landfall expected in Portugal tonight!
