From Chiang Mai to Krabi on board AirAsia

Part 2 of our holiday in Thailand (read our trip report between Brussels and Bangkok), we decided to fly AirAsia (in Thai: แอร์เอเชีย) between Chiang Mai and Krabi. The aircraft is operated by Thai AirAsia, a joint venture of Malaysian low-fare airline AirAsia and Thailand’s Asia Aviation.

Flight: FD 3070
Date : 18 August 2018
Aircraft: Airbus A320 (HS-BBP)
From-To: Chiang Mai to Krabi (CNX-KBV)
Seat: economy
Scheduled/Effective Time of Departure: 06:35/06:37 (GMT +7)
Scheduled/Effective Time of Arrival: 08:30/08:20 (GMT +7)
Scheduled/Effective Duration of the flight: 1 hour 55 min/1 hour 42 min

Online check-in was a hassle as it simply didn’t work, we had to wait until the airport to get our boarding passes. Unfortunately, we received random seats: 8E – 8F – 30F – 31F

AirAsia is a low-cost airline so we had to self check-in our luggage, until the machine broke down. On-time boarding but to a remote position by bus. As you can see on the images, the aircraft is fully-stickered with advertising: from bin to tray table.

AirAsia offers a buy-on-board menu, a selection of hot meals, miso- or mushroom soup, wraps, toast, sticky rice, juices, snacks, noodles, chips, a wide variety of hot and cold drinks. The airline offers its guests to pre-book meals through their website (at least 24 hours before the scheduled flight departure).

The flight was rather turbulent, a little word from the captain on the turbulence would have been appreciated, but after the flight he signed the kids logbook.

AirAsia is a low-cost airline and you clearly notice that, you can compare the airline with Ryanair in Europe.
