Online booking platform TravelBird applies for suspension of payment

Share

On 31 October, Amsterdam based travel agency TravelBird was forced to stop selling its online travel deals. The online booking platform filed for a suspension of payments after no new funding was found. In a statement on its web site, TravelBird confirms that trips booked with TravelBird are being covered within the terms of the guarantee scheme of Stichting Garantiefonds Reisgelden (SGR). Travellers that booked a trip with TravelBird will be contacted by SGR with further information.

TravelBird has grown explosively since its launch in 2010 and was profitable for the first time in the first half of 2018. “Due to seasonal fluctuations, there has been a delay in payments to partners in recent months and TravelBird has actively sought additional financing. Unfortunately, that did not succeed in time,” the statement said.

“In the past 8 years, TravelBird has been able to inspire more than 7 million travellers with often special and personal travel experiences. TravelBird is very grateful that all our travellers have chosen and trusted TravelBird all these years to travel around the world with us.

Thanks also to our intensely involved and respected 310 employees and partners who always worked so hard for our travellers.“

Working for 25 years in the aviation industry, I changed my career and became a firefighter/EMT in 2021. I like to spend my free time with my two sons, girlfriend, family and friends. I love to travel, wine and dine and support my favourite football squad KV Mechelen. Once an Ironman 70.3 finisher and dreaming of completing a full distance.
