Every day, dozens of refugees fleeing war arrive on makeshift boats in the Greek islands. The Sunweb tour operator takes the opportunity to offer until late March travel to “help” refugees on the island of Lesbos. For a fee ranging from 419-459 euros, the ordinary tourists can now get their hands dirty.
Normally the tour operator organizes trips to Lesbos only after May. But gone are the holidays on a beach in the sun! Now, tourists who want to make themselves useful can choose tour packages to help refugees. Volunteers leave to stay for about a week. The first day, they visit refugee camps on the island. The following days they will work. And after a week, the “travellers” are back home.
For these trips, Sunweb is working with the airline Transavia and the Movement on the Ground foundation. According to Sunweb, this activity brings no profit. The trip costs between 419 and 459 euros and everything is included in the price.
