Belgian chemical company Syensqo has highlighted its role in the Artemis II mission, supplying advanced materials used in the propulsion system of NASA’s Space Launch System.

The mission, which marks the first crewed flight of the Orion spacecraft in over 50 years of lunar exploration, represents a key step in the Artemis programme’s goal of establishing a sustained human presence on the Moon and preparing for future missions to Mars.

Syensqo provides high-temperature ablative materials for the solid rocket booster nozzles, designed to withstand extreme heat and pressure during launch. These materials protect the structure by absorbing and dissipating thermal energy through controlled degradation processes, ensuring the integrity of the propulsion system.

In addition, the company supplies glass-phenolic composite materials that reinforce the nozzle structure, delivering mechanical strength and durability under intense stress conditions.

The contribution underscores Syensqo’s role in advanced aerospace materials, supporting mission safety and performance in one of the most demanding engineering environments.
