Passengers travelling with Eurostar are experiencing major disruptions, with long delays and cancellations reported at several terminals. The problems are affecting services through the Channel Tunnel, causing significant inconvenience during a busy travel period.
The disruption is due to a technical power supply issue in the Channel Tunnel, involving problems with the overhead power system and a malfunctioning shuttle train used for vehicle transport. As a result, traffic through the tunnel has been severely limited.
Several Eurostar trains have been delayed by multiple hours, and several services have been cancelled altogether. Delays have been reported on routes between London, Brussels, Paris and Amsterdam. Vehicle transport through the tunnel has also been impacted, leading to long queues and waiting times at terminals on both sides of the Channel.
Eurostar has advised passengers to postpone their journeys if possible and warned that further delays and cancellations may occur. Travellers at stations have reported crowded terminals, long waiting times and uncertainty about departure information.
The situation remains unstable, and rail operators are working to resolve the technical problems while managing reduced service levels.
