US lifts restrictions on Mexican airlines’ cross-border expansion

Share

The US Department of Transportation has revoked an order restricting certain services by Mexican airlines between Mexico and the United States, reopening opportunities for Aeroméxico to expand its transborder network.

According to Aeroméxico’s announcement on 19 October, the decision took immediate effect and removed restrictions imposed under the DOT’s order of 28 October 2025. That order had disapproved certain existing, proposed and prospective flight schedules.

Aeroméxico said the restrictions no longer prevent it from adding frequencies or launching scheduled services from Mexico City International Airport and Felipe Ángeles International Airport to the United States, subject to applicable regulatory requirements.

The airline said the DOT determined that measures taken by Mexico’s government had addressed the concerns behind the original order. It welcomed the decision following engagement between the two governments.

Aeroméxico will now assess opportunities for additional flights and destinations. Its announcement did not identify specific routes, frequencies or launch dates.
