The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has advised European airlines to avoid the airspace of the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait, citing a high risk to civil aviation as tensions between the United States and Iran continue to escalate.
The latest Conflict Zone Information Bulletin (CZIB), valid until 29 July 2026 unless revised earlier, also recommends avoiding parts of the Gulf of Oman within the Muscat Flight Information Region west of 58°E. The warning applies to EU carriers and non-European airlines operating under EASA authorisation.
EASA said increased military activity in the region, including the risk of missile and drone attacks, air defence operations and possible misidentification of civilian aircraft, has created a dangerous environment for commercial aviation. The agency highlighted particular concerns linked to the presence of major military installations in Gulf countries and the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz.
Airlines have been advised not to operate in the affected airspace at any altitude, to avoid the specified Gulf of Oman area and to closely monitor official aviation notices and national authorities’ guidance.
The new warning expands existing EASA advisories covering Iran, Iraq and Lebanon and comes as airlines reassess routes through the Middle East. The agency said it will continue monitoring developments with EU institutions and member states and will update its risk assessment if the security situation changes.
