The Airforwarders Association has expressed disappointment following the President’s State of the Union Address, criticising the Administration’s decision to impose a temporary 10% surcharge on imports.

In a statement issued on 25 February 2026, the Washington D.C.–based trade body warned that broad tariff measures risk increasing uncertainty for U.S. businesses, despite recent legal clarity provided by the Supreme Court.

The association said its members — operating in air cargo and logistics — are already contending with fluctuating shipment volumes, pricing pressures, and complex compliance requirements. The introduction of sweeping tariffs without detailed implementation guidance, it argued, will create additional operational disruption across supply chains.

Air cargo providers typically plan capacity and pricing months in advance and operate on tight margins. According to the association, abrupt trade policy shifts undermine long-term planning, investment decisions, and demand forecasting.

The group also highlighted heightened geopolitical instability, including tensions in the Middle East, stating that domestic policy uncertainty compounds risk for U.S. importers, exporters, and logistics providers.

The Airforwarders Association is urging the Administration and Congress to prioritise consistent, transparent trade frameworks that enhance economic competitiveness and provide greater predictability for businesses.
