The board of SABCA (Société Anonyme Belge de Constructions Aéronautiques) today informed the works council of its intention to reorganise the production unit in Lummen. “The reason for our restructuring is a sharp drop in the volume of work due to market evolutions in the aerospace industry. The reorganisation could lead to the loss of 30 jobs out of a total of 105.

SABCA Lummen is part of the SABCA group and was founded in 1920, active in the production and maintenance of a wide range of components for the aerospace industry. Its main sectors of activity are civil aviation, space and defence.

The production unit in Lummen employs around hundred people and specializes in manufacturing elements in composite material for a number of Airbus aircraft types and business jets such as Gulfstream G650. The site also assembles parts for the Ariane 5 rocket.

Despite the increasing number of passengers and aircraft, there is a rationalisation going on at the two largest aircraft manufacturers, reducing the number of types. In the sector of business jets, for which SABCA Limburg also supplies components, there are strong declines in the sales figures,” SABCA announced in a statement. Next to the location in Lummen (Limburg), SABCA has two other locations:

  • Brussels – headquarters and main centre of operations
  • Charleroi – military aircraft and helicopter maintenance, technical and logistic support to the customers, opened in 1954
