Polish customs officials have intercepted a shipment of aircraft tyres intended for Boeing civilian aircraft, marking a significant enforcement action under European Union sanctions against Russia and Belarus.
The seizure occurred during an inspection at the Koroszczyn border crossing, where authorities discovered that the cargo, falsely declared as car and bus tyres, actually comprised five metric tons of aircraft tyres. The shipment originated from a Spanish company and was en route to Azerbaijan, with transit planned through Belarus and Russia.
The National Revenue Administration of Poland has initiated criminal proceedings for customs fraud in connection with this incident. While the manufacturer of the tyres has not been disclosed, the case highlights ongoing attempts to circumvent international sanctions imposed following Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine.
