This night a thermographic picture of Mechelen, Belgium will be taken from an aircraft. The picture will show which roofs are insulated and which roofs have heat leaks. 650 volunteers have registered for an analysis of their homes. As the weather this night – cold and clear – is ideal the volunteers have received a text that the aircraft will take off this night. Mechelen Police has warned their citizens that this night an aircraft will fly at a low altitude above the city.
Climate-neutral cities
Marina De Bie, Aldermen for Energy, explains: “Based on this thermographic research, we will identify homes that require better insulation. We will contact the owners that volunteered and inform them on sustainable and energy-saving measures. We want to evolve step by step towards a climate-neutral city by saving money for the “Mechelaars” and by limiting our CO2 emissions.”
The aircraft is a Cessna 404 (OO-GPS) from Eurosense. Their aircraft is equipped with one, two or three camera/scanner holes.
