Share

The H10 Costa Adeje Palace hotel in Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain, has been quarantined because an Italian tourist who is staying there has contracted the coronavirus (COVID-19), tour operator TUI said in a statement. Approximately 700 holiday-goers are not allowed to leave the hotel, which is guarded by police offers.

At least five Dutch and 110 Belgian TUI travellers are staying in the hotel; TUI is currently in contact with the local authorities and the management of the hotel to obtain more information.

For tourists that are staying at the relevant hotel in the coming days (weeks), TUI will inform them as soon as possible and will offer an alternative solution.

UPDATE 25 Feb 16:44

At present, local authorities have not yet provided any information on the situation at the H10 Costa Adeje Palace hotel in Tenerife. They also did not give details about the health of the Italian traveller who allegedly contracted the coronavirus. TUI holidaymakers who were to stay in the hotel concerned within the next 2 weeks are being contacted to suggest an alternative hotel or destination.

UPDATE 26 Feb 12:58

Local authorities are in charge of operations at the H10 Costa Adeje Palace hotel in Tenerife. Doctors are on-site and carry out tests on all the holidaymakers present.

Yesterday, TUI communicated by SMS with Belgian holidaymakers on site and today they will be contacted personally by telephone by TUI’s customer service, which wants to inform them as well as possible and answer their questions.

The health and comfort of vacationers are TUI’s top priorities.

UPDATE 26 Feb 18:00

Local authorities have notified us that the official quarantine period in the H10 Costa Adeje Palace hotel in Tenerife will be 14 days. This means that vacationers will likely have to stay at the hotel until March 10, but it will also depend on test results that will be released in the next 48 hours. Unless otherwise specified, they can move freely within the hotel.

It has also been reported that some guests may leave the hotel later that evening. No details have been communicated and we do not know how many Belgian travellers are affected.

UPDATE 28 Feb 11:41

We have just received information that 10 Belgian vacationers from TUI were able to leave the H10 Costa Adeje Palace hotel in Tenerife today. These are holidaymakers who arrived at the hotel on February 24 after the people who contracted the coronavirus left. TUI’s operational teams on site have taken care of the holidaymakers and are currently organising their return to Belgium. In order to protect the privacy of these travellers, TUI cannot currently provide any additional information.
