A small aircraft crashed into Lake Lucerne near Kehrsiten NW on the morning of Monday, July 28. Both occupants — a 78-year-old Austrian pilot and a 55-year-old Swiss woman — were rescued alive. The pilot was uninjured, while the passenger was taken to hospital with injuries.
Authorities believe the plane attempted an emergency water landing before sinking. Search efforts for the submerged Daher TBM-940, registered D-FSAM in Germany, are ongoing. The crash also caused a kerosene leak, which has since been contained with oil booms.
The aircraft took off from Buochs Airport (BXO) at 09:39 and crashed at 09:41 after flying around the Bürgenstock mountain. Flight data shows it had made a brief earlier flight that morning, and anomalies in altitude and speed suggest technical issues may have prompted the crash. The cause remains under investigation.
