Two people were killed on Sunday after a Beechcraft C90 King Air with tail number N291CC crashed into several parked tractor-trailers near Hicks Airfield, sparking a massive fire north of Fort Worth.
The Fort Worth Fire Department (FWFD) said it received multiple emergency calls about the crash, which occurred roughly 19 miles north of downtown Fort Worth. Crews arriving at the scene found multiple trucks engulfed in flames and confirmed that two individuals were pronounced dead at the scene.
Surveillance footage showed the aircraft diving nose-first into a row of parked trucks before bursting into flames, sending thick black smoke billowing into the sky. The impact destroyed parts of the trucks and ignited nearby grass fires, which firefighters later contained.
At least ten tractor-trailers were damaged, according to FWFD. The site was later handed over to Tarrant County Fire after it was determined to be outside Fort Worth’s city limits.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have launched a joint investigation into the cause of the crash. The identities of the victims have not yet been released.
