Two men were killed when a twin-turboprop Reims-Cessna F406 Caravan II registered VH-EYQ crashed into a paddock near Oakey in Queensland’s Darling Downs region.
The aircraft, en route from Warwick to Brisbane, had been diverted to Oakey and circled the nearby town of Brymaroo before crashing just kilometres from Oakey Airport around 15:00. Witnesses reported a massive explosion and fireball upon impact. Emergency services and locals were unable to reach the wreckage in time.
A crime scene has been established, and the Australian Transport Safety Bureau will investigate the incident alongside police.
