Two civilian helicopters collided and crashed near Eura Airport in Satakunta, Finland, on Saturday. The aircraft, identified as Robinson R44 light helicopters—one Estonian-registered ES-ETR, the other Austrian OE-XOS—were en route from Tallinn to Piikajärvi Airport in Kumo when the crash occurred. Both were found about 100 metres apart. The five people onboard (three in one helicopter, two in the other) died in the crash.
Authorities have cordoned off the crash site, and only rescue personnel are permitted nearby. Two ambulances left the scene without using emergency lights. Preliminary reports suggest one helicopter struck the other during a manoeuvre, causing one to plummet “like a stone.” The Central Criminal Police Office has launched an investigation, supported by the Accident Investigation Board.
Eyewitnesses, flight tracking data, and emergency response timelines are being reviewed as part of the probe.
