A Piper PA-18-150 Super Cub seaplane registered HB-ORK crashed into Lake Zug near Cham on Friday afternoon during an air show, killing a 60-year-old woman.
The 49-year-old pilot escaped unharmed and swam to safety, but divers later recovered the missing passenger, who had already died. The plane sank to a depth of about 10 metres, 200 metres from shore, before being lifted out by divers and a floating excavator platform.
Authorities installed floating barriers to contain spilt fuel, halted the air show, and deployed relief teams to support witnesses and family members.
The cause of the crash is under investigation by the Zug Prosecutor’s Office, the Federal Prosecutor’s Office, the Swiss Transportation Safety Investigation Board (STSB), and local police.
