A Canadair Challenger 604 operated by Triton Aviation made an emergency landing at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Nigeria, on 15 October after a door separated shortly after take-off. All nine people on board were uninjured.
The Lagos-bound business jet registered T7-SEI was approximately 5.6 kilometres from the airport and climbing through about 1,070 metres when the crew declared an emergency, according to the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB).
The pilots issued a Mayday call and returned to Abuja, where emergency services were placed on standby. The aircraft landed safely on Runway 22.
The detached door was subsequently recovered near farmland in Abuja and taken to the NSIB’s wreckage hangar for examination.
NSIB Director-General Captain Alex Badeh Jr confirmed that an investigation had been launched. No cause has been established, and any link to a mechanical defect or maintenance issue remains subject to investigation.
