On 6 June 2018 a Cessna CitationJet CJ2+ (D-IULI) suffered a runway excursion accident at Saint Tropez Airport, France. The aircraft came in from Figari, South of Corsica and crashed at the end of the runway during the landing phase. Both pilots -of German nationality- have been wounded.
The co-pilot, seriously injured was helicoptered to Sainte-Anne Hospital in Toulon, and the captain, slight injured, was transported to the local Gassin hospital.
Due to a risk of environmental pollution (kerosene spillage) in the nearby La Môle river, thirty firefighters, as well as the SMUR (Service Mobile d’Urgence et de Réanimation) and the gendarmerie are on-site.
According to the airport manager, the installation of floating dams has made it possible to quickly circumnavigate spilled fuel. The aircraft can contain 1500 liters. It is currently not known how much fuel has leaked.
The French BEA (Bureau d’Enquêtes & d’Analyses) is investigating the accident.
