A Cessna Caravan C-208 crashed on Saturday, August 1st, while flying over the Nazca Lines archaeological site in southern Peru.
The aircraft was carrying 13 people at the time of the accident — 11 passengers and two pilots.
The Cessna Caravan was operating a sightseeing flight over the famous Nazca Lines, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its enormous ancient geoglyphs carved into the desert floor.
The aircraft went down while in the vicinity of the archaeological site. Details about the circumstances of the crash, including the exact location of the accident and the condition of those on board, were not immediately available.
Authorities are expected to investigate the cause of the accident.
The Nazca Lines are one of Peru’s most popular tourist attractions, and flights over the site are operated by several local aviation companies using light aircraft.
