Civil Guard divers have recovered the bodies of a former US Army fighter pilot and his 13-year-old son after their small plane crashed into the sea near Port de Sóller, Mallorca. The crash occurred during an acrobatic flight in a Team Rocket F4 Raider registered N31VX on Saturday evening, shortly after takeoff from Binissalem airfield.

The aircraft had been performing authorised manoeuvres in the area when it went down. A nearby boat captain witnessed the crash and alerted emergency services. A large-scale search operation followed, involving Civil Guard units, Maritime Rescue, Navy vessels, and aircraft.

The bodies were located around 13:00 on Sunday and are being transported to Palma for autopsy.
