On 17 October, First Lady Melania Trump was forced to return to Joint Andrews Air Force Base after smoke and a burning smell was detected in her Boeing C-32A. Melania Trump was en route to Philadelphia to visit the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital until the problem developed 10 minutes after take-off.
Members of the press aboard reported that a “thin haze of smoke” was visible and the smell of something burning. Passengers were given wet towels to breathe through. A “mechanical issue” was detected.
The aircraft safely headed back; meanwhile, a replacement aircraft is being prepared to bring Melania Trump to “Philly”.
