A U.S. F-35 fighter jet was forced to make an emergency landing at a U.S. air base in the Middle East after being struck by what sources believe was Iranian fire during a combat mission over Iran. The aircraft landed safely, and the pilot is reported to be in stable condition, according to U.S. Central Command spokesperson Capt. Tim Hawkins. An investigation into the incident is underway.
If confirmed, this would mark the first successful Iranian strike on a U.S. aircraft since the conflict began in late February. The incident comes despite US officials asserting strong progress in the campaign, with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stating that Iran’s air defences have been significantly weakened and that the U.S. is “winning decisively.”
