On 16 May, a U.S. Air Force F-16 crashed into a warehouse just outside of March Air Reserve Base, California. According to local reports from the scene, the F-16 pancaked onto the roof of the warehouse. Dutch Scramble Magazine writes that “Unconfirmed reports indicate that the pilot ejected and is currently hospitalized. His/her condition is unknown. A hazmat team is responding to the crash site which may indicate that the F-16 was carrying live ordinance but again these are unconfirmed reports.“
March ARB is used as a deployment base for different ANG units that are tasked with the defense of the US and specifically California’s air space. One unit regularly tasked with this assignment at March is the 114th FW of the South Dakota ANG who fly the F-16C.
