On 26 August at 09:38 (UTC +2), a Spanish Air Force (Ejército del Aire) CASA C-101 Aviojet belonging to the Patrulla Águila, Spain’s Red Arrows, crashed into the Mediterranean Sea near La Manga, Murcia, Spain during a training flight. A video of the splashdown appeared on social media.
The single pilot was able to eject her/his seat, emergency services were scrambled to recover the pilot. A few hours after the crash, authorities confirmed the dead of the pilot.
The CASA C-101 Aviojet is a low-wing single engine jet-powered advanced trainer and light attack aircraft.
