The Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) has ordered an Airbus A330 MRTT+, the latest evolution of the proven aerial refuelling and transport aircraft, based on the A330neo. The aircraft will feature both boom and hose-and-drogue refuelling systems, a VVIP cabin, and a medical evacuation kit. Conversion in Spain begins in 2026, with delivery set for 2029.
Launched in 2024, the A330 MRTT+ incorporates Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines, aerodynamic improvements, and a higher take-off weight, reducing fuel burn by up to 8% and increasing range and payload. With 95% airframe commonality with existing A330 MRTTs, it benefits from established training and maintenance networks.
Alongside the order, Airbus signed an expanded MoU with Thai Aviation Industries to provide in-country maintenance and support, aligning with Thailand’s “Make in Thailand” policy. This strengthens local aerospace capabilities and ensures long-term support for the RTAF fleet.
