Poland tries to deliver MiG-29 fleet to the United States at Ramstein Air Base for further delivery to Ukraine

Poland is ready to deploy all their MiG-29 jets to the Ramstein Air Base, Germany and place them at the disposal of the government of the United States. Aim is that the United States will offer those MiG-29 jets to Ukraine. In this way, Poland avoids a direct delivery to Ukraine.

Mig-29 jets are Russian-built and Ukrainian fighter pilots are qualified on that type. In return, Poland requests the United States to provide them with corresponding operational capabilities (note from editor: F-16s).

Rumour has it that the Polish deal was already known for some time, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken suggested that the agreement could continue, but the United States Defense Department later said that the delivery is not tenable and can’t go ahead.

The Polish Government also requests other NATO Allies – owners of MiG-29 jets – to act in the same vein. But NATO countries are hesitant to get directly involved in the war that Russia started in Ukraine.

  1. I fully support all actions taken by the west and other suppotive nations in the war to stop Russian aggression.

  2. Don’t worry Will, if this happens you’ll get to put your money where your mouth is and show your resolve by directly fighting the Russians…on your home turf!
Amazing-the level of uneducated people!! By the looks of it it’s not just the “peasants” that are uneducated, the ones (pretending to be) in charge aren’t of the intellectual type either.

Some sharp words and a swift rejection from the Pentagon Tuesday evening: “The prospect of fighter jets ‘at the disposal of the Government of the United States of America’ departing from a U.S./NATO base in Germany to fly into airspace that is contested with Russia over Ukraine raises serious concerns for the entire NATO alliance,” Pentagon press secretary John Kirby said of the Polish announcement which caught the Biden administration by surprise.

Kirby described the Pentagon perspective on Poland’s earlier in the day declaration that it would send all its Russian-produced MiG-29 jets to Ramstein Air Base in Germany for the United States to be able to transfer them to Ukraine further as follows:

“It is simply not clear to us that there is a substantive rationale for it,” he added, stressing that the proposal “shows just some of the complexities this issue presents.”
“We will continue to consult with Poland and our other NATO allies about this issue and the difficult logistical challenges it presents, but we do not believe Poland’s proposal is a tenable one.”

  3. It seems to me that Will’s comment was pretty neutral. He didn’t go further than “supporting actions taken by the west” and hardly merits the hysterical response from “bus driver”. Actually, observing how people react online gives a good hint at how people like Putin and Trump can rise to power and exploit others.
