Poland intercepts Russian military aircraft for third consecutive day over Baltic Sea

Share

Polish fighter jets were scrambled for the third day in a row to intercept three Russian military aircraft operating over the Baltic Sea, according to Defence Minister W?adys?aw Kosiniak-Kamysz.

The latest incident involved two Russian Su-30 multirole fighter jets and an Il-20 reconnaissance aircraft, with the latter flying approximately 30 kilometres off the Polish coast. Polish aircraft initially responded to the Su-30s before being redirected to intercept the Il-20.

The defence minister said the repeated flights appear to be an attempt by Russia to test Poland’s air defence capabilities. As with the previous interceptions on Tuesday and Wednesday, the Russian aircraft did not enter Polish airspace, and the interceptions were conducted in line with NATO air policing procedures.
