The Israeli Air Force has shot down a Syrian Sukhoi Su-22 “Fitter” fighter jet that allegedly infiltrated about two kilometers into Israeli airspace, in southern Golan. The Israel Defence Force (IDF) was monitoring the fighter jet, two Patriot missiles were launched and intercepted the aircraft. Sirens sounded in the Golan and Emek HaYarden regional councils and the city of Katzrin.
“Since this morning there was a greater activity of the Syrian Air Force“, the Israeli Air Force tweeted. It’s the first time since 2014 that the Israeli Air Force shot down a manned Syrian aircraft.
Some unconfirmed reports state that a pilot has been killed.
“The IDF is in high alert and will continue to operate against the violation of the 1974 Separation of Forces Agreement.“, the defence force announced.
