During the final day of the Dubai Airshow on Friday, an Indian Air Force Tejas fighter jet crashed around 2:10 p.m. local time at Al Maktoum International Airport while performing low-level aerobatics.
The single-engine aircraft, a symbol of India’s aerospace self-reliance built by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, exploded on impact about a mile from spectators, with no ground injuries reported. The Indian Air Force confirmed the pilot’s fatal injuries, expressed regret, pledged family support, and ordered a court of inquiry; this is only the second known Tejas crash since entering service.
