The President-elect of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrado, who took office last Sunday, will keep his electoral promise. His government will sell the presidential aircraft, a Boeing 787-8 which former Felipe Calderon (2006-2012) had purchased at a cost of 191 million euros.
The plane was delivered in 2016. The Boeing 787-8 features a tailor-made VIP cabin including a meeting room and presidential suite with a king-size bed. Previously, the Mexican government aircraft was an old Boeing 757, so the arrival of the Dreamliner meant a considerable upgrade.
Mr López Obrador has vowed to fly exclusively on commercial flights. The Mexican government will also sell 130 state aeroplanes.
The Mexican businessman Gustavo Jimenez Pons has already made an offer for the 787. Pons is ready to pay 100 million dollars for the presidential Dreamliner and then rent it out as a luxury charter.
