A French Air Force aircraft crashed on Friday morning in the department of Alpes-de-Haute-Provence during a training flight. The two pilots were injured and taken to the hospital, according to the French Ministry of Defence.
The accident occurred around 09:30 near the Montagne de Lure, in an uninhabited area. The aircraft was conducting a “low-altitude training flight,” the ministry said.
The instructor and student pilot from the air base in Salon-de-Provence were injured. “The crew was conscious and has been transported to the nearest hospitals,” the ministry added.
The French air safety investigation authority has launched an investigation into the cause of the accident. The training aircraft, a Cirrus SR-20, is a single-engine plane used for initial pilot training. The French Air Force operates 25 of these aircraft.
