At the military airport of Melsbroek (part of Brussels Airport), preparations are ongoing for the construction of the largest aircraft hangar ever built by the Belgian Defence.

13,621 m² will be used for the maintenance of the 7 new Airbus A400M aircraft purchased by the Belgian Air Force together with one for Luxembourg.

The construction will start in March 2020. The hangar will be able to care for three A400M aircraft.

The current hangar, built for the Hercules C130 aircraft, was too small for the higher A400M.

The commander of the  15 Wing Air Transport, future owner of the A400M, and the representatives of the building company DEMOCO have informed the media and 300 interested residents about the construction of the maintenance hangar this Wednesday.
