Vertical Aerospace VX4

Syensqo and Vertical Aerospace have announced a long-term supplier partnership to support the industrialisation of the VX4 electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, which is targeting certification in 2028 ahead of commercial entry into service.

Under the agreement, Syensqo’s high-performance composite and adhesive materials—already used in Vertical’s prototype programme—have been selected for the production VX4 aircraft. These materials will be integrated throughout the airframe, delivering the lightweight strength, durability and structural efficiency required for high-frequency electric vertical flight operations.

The partnership builds on several years of close collaboration and is a key step as Vertical transitions from development into certification and scalable manufacturing. The VX4’s airframe will be manufactured by Aciturri, a global aerostructures supplier, supporting the move toward full commercial production.

Syensqo brings extensive aerospace credentials, supplying advanced materials to leading civil and defence aircraft manufacturers worldwide. This expertise supports Vertical’s ambitions not only in civil electric air mobility, but also potential defence applications of the VX4 platform.

Vertical Aerospace unveiled its new VX4 aircraft design on 10 December in London, highlighting passenger and luggage capacity as well as its certification-ready architecture. The partnership underscores both companies’ shared focus on safety, performance and sustainable aviation, as electric flight moves closer to commercial reality.
