Six crew members were killed when a Russian Tu-95 strategic bomber crashed in the Amur region on Tuesday, 29 September, according to Russia’s Defence Ministry. A seventh crew member survived and was taken to hospital.
The aircraft came down in a remote area during a training flight, Russian media reported, citing the ministry. It was reportedly carrying no weapons.
Air force investigators have been sent to the crash site. The cause has not been established, and reports suggesting an engine fire remain unverified.
The Tu-95 is a four-engine turboprop bomber used by Russia’s long-range aviation forces. Reports have linked the aircraft to Ukrainka air base in the Amur region, but its precise departure point has not been officially confirmed.
