Saab has signed a 15-year agreement to install and operate remote air traffic control services at Stockholm-Västerås Airport from 1 January 2028.
Aircraft movements at Västerås will be managed from Saab’s Remote Tower Centre in Sundsvall. The airport will become the fifth controlled from the facility, joining Sundsvall-Timrå, Sälen, Örnsköldsvik and Linköping.
Saab will install a fully digital infrastructure at the airport, including a camera tower, remote air traffic control workstations and meteorological systems. The company will also operate and maintain the infrastructure throughout the contract period.
The service-based arrangement is intended to reduce costs while making it easier to introduce future technological upgrades. Saab said the contract reinforces its position in digital air traffic management, while the airport described the project as an important step in developing the region’s transport infrastructure.
