Four pilots were killed when two Philippine Air Force SF-260 trainer aircraft collided in mid-air at Fernando Air Base, south of Manila, on Friday afternoon.
Both single-engine propeller aircraft came down within the base perimeter, with no casualties reported on the ground, Air Force spokesman Colonel Alvin Capinguian said in a statement released on Saturday.
The air force has opened an investigation into the collision and temporarily grounded its SF-260 fleet as a precaution. The circumstances of the accident have not been established.
The crash follows another fatal SF-260 training accident in May, when two military pilots were killed in Benguet province in the northern Philippines.
