Embraer, Saab, and the Brazilian Air Force have presented the first Gripen E fighter jet assembled in Brazil, marking a major milestone in the country’s defence and aerospace capabilities.
The aircraft was unveiled at Embraer’s Gavião Peixoto facility and makes Brazil one of a limited number of nations able to produce advanced supersonic fighters domestically. It is part of a 2014 contract for 36 Gripen aircraft, with local production supported by a Brazilian and international supply chain.
The Gripen E is a modern multi-role fighter designed for air defence, reconnaissance, and strike missions, featuring advanced avionics, sensor fusion, and network-centric capabilities. The newly unveiled aircraft will undergo testing before entering service, joining 10 units already delivered and operating from Anápolis Air Base.
The programme underscores strategic industrial cooperation between Brazil and Sweden, with further aircraft to be produced locally as deliveries continue.
