Denmark will purchase 16 additional F-35 fighter jets and invest 27.4 billion kroner in new Arctic and North Atlantic infrastructure as part of a major defence package worth nearly 60 billion kroner.
The move will expand Denmark’s fleet to 43 F-35s, marking what Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen called a “historic strengthening” of the Danish Armed Forces. The new aircraft are expected to be fully operational by 2027, following the delivery of the final jets from Denmark’s original order of 27.
The Arctic and North Atlantic investments include a new Arctic Command headquarters in Nuuk, a submarine cable between Greenland and Denmark, and the acquisition of two Arctic patrol ships, drones, and maritime patrol aircraft.
Chief of Defence Michael Hyldgaard said the upgrades will reinforce Denmark’s ability to secure and defend Greenland, the Faroe Islands, and Denmark under NATO commitments.
The agreement forms part of a broader defence settlement totalling around 350 billion kroner, with further funding plans to be presented in early 2026.
