Debris from crashed F-35B fighter jet found in South Carolina after pilot ejected

A US Marine Corps missing F-35B stealth fighter jet that went off the radar over the weekend after its pilot ejected has been located in rural South Carolina. The debris field was discovered in Williamsburg County, about 60 miles northeast of Joint Base Charleston, following a public appeal for assistance in locating the elusive aircraft.

The pilot successfully ejected and parachuted to safety in a North Charleston neighbourhood.

The mishap is under investigation, and aviation operations were paused for two days after the crash, marking the third costly incident in recent weeks for the Marine Corps.

Details of the previous incidents were not disclosed, but the stand-down period aims to reinforce safety protocols and procedures with Marines.
