Embraer has delivered the first three A-29N Super Tucano aircraft to Portugal, marking the start of a 12-aircraft order for the Portuguese Air Force (FAP). The aircraft landed at OGMA’s facilities in Alverca do Ribatejo on September 1, where they will be equipped to meet NATO and Portuguese operational standards.
Portugal is the launch customer for the new A-29N variant, which is tailored for NATO interoperability. The delivery comes just eight months after the contract was signed, reflecting Embraer’s speed and flexibility.
The A-29 Super Tucano, already in service with 22 air forces worldwide, has logged over 600,000 flight hours. Known for its cost-effectiveness and versatility, it can perform missions ranging from advanced pilot training and close air support to border surveillance, reconnaissance, and armed ISR.
Equipped with modern avionics, precision weapons systems, and robust communications, the A-29N can operate from austere environments and unpaved runways while offering low maintenance costs and high reliability. The acquisition strengthens Portugal’s fleet modernisation and deepens cooperation with the local defence industry.
